MVD run-4 configuration

revised 19 Sep 2003
Perspective view of the proposed configuration, showing 1/2 of the MVD. The endplate assemblies, containing the motherbords and the pad detectors, are enclosed in 6mm-thick rohacell covers.

The yellow struts at the top and bottom are 1/2mm wall aluminum tubes. These are the structural elements connecting both ends. The top strut also carries pad detector MCM cooling air from one end to the other.

The red tube carries cooling air across for the cooling of the mother boards. It is made of rolled-up mylar, or black plastic sheet if we can find it.

Since there will be very few cables on the endplates, the flexing forces are thought to be small, so no stiffening braces are needed.

The free space between the end units is 60.7 cm :

The 90 degree sector indicates the electron arm acceptance. The lightweight cooling tube is well clear of this sector.

The Pisa software was modified to reflect this configuration, and it can be switched by setting N_CAGES=0 in the phnx.par file.
