Abstract:

The Phenix Multiplicity Vertex Detector (MVD) consists of silicon single metal strip detectors (300um thick and 200 um pitch) and double metal pad detectors at z=+/- 35cm. There are 256 channels in each strip detector and 12x21 pads in each pad detector. The MVD will provide a multiplicity measurement to the level-1 trigger and measure fluctuations within the multiplicity distribution on an event-by-event basis, as well as reconstruct the collision vertex to approximately 2mm. Details of the silicon detector design will be presented in this poster. The double metal pad detector, which will be used in the MVD endcaps, represents a novel design in silicon history.
