MCM problems with surface-mount components -- after 1st repairs

This page contains a summary taken from Jehanne's notes from visual and electrical (look for shorts) tests of surface-mount components on the MCMs. This page only gives results from her third round of inspections, in late August 1999. For details on the first round of inspections, look here. For details on the second round of inspections, look here.

I try to give a brief description of the location of any surface-mount component with a problem noted by Jehanne. My description assumes you are looking at the top surface of the MCM with the 256 pin input connector on the left and the 50 pin output connector on the right.

In the table below, I only listed problems which seemed likely to cause the MCM to fail (to me). Other comments and notes from the original data sheets are omitted.

MCM date problem location
104 27-Aug-99 no problems --
107 27-Aug-99 C1 near HM, middle right
107 27-Aug-99 C24, C111, C82, C53, C27, C198, C169, C140 one on top of each AMU/ADC chip
116 27-Aug-99 probing OK, there is an incomplete comment about clear encapsulant on the MCM sruface?? --
