Heavy Flavor Tracker (HFT) an upgrade detector for STAR at RHIC This talk presents information about the Heavy Flavor Tracker (HFT), a high resolution vertex detector being developed for the STAR detector system. This detector will be used to topologically identify D mesons in heavy ion collisions at RHIC. The HFT will use monolithic active pixel sensors (MAPS) developed at Strasburg by Marc Winter's group with IPHC. Readout electronics have been developed that provide cluster identification and zero suppression at full readout speed. Mechanical concepts are being explored that will allow rapid detector replacement with stable spatially mapped devices. A prototype telescope using MAPS will be inserted in STAR this year for testing.
