The STAR HFT upgrade was conceived shortly after the start of the RHI program and became a project for STAR in 2009. The detector system had a prototype run in 013 and the physics program ran in 2014 to 2016. Physics analysis is ongoing with several results published and additional underway. In the talk I will discuss the HFT detector, properties, and lessons learned during construction and operation. In the second half I will focus on some of the key physics results that have been made possible with the HFT. In particular the talk will focus on collective flow of D0s, charm quark properties in the medium
