VIRTUAL Thursday, April 8th 2021 3:45 – 4:45 p.m. WEBEX Speaker: Dr. Nikolas Patronis University of Ioannina-Greece “The fission experimental programme at the CERN n_TOF facility” Abstract: In this seminar the fission experimental programme at the CERN n_TOF facility will be presented. Neutron-induced fission reactions play a crucial role in a variety of fields of fundamental and applied nuclear science. Concerning basic nuclear physics research, they provide important information on the properties of nuclear matter, while in nuclear technology they are at the basis of present and future reactor designs. Furthermore, there is a renewed interest in fission reactions in nuclear astrophysics due to the important role of fission recycling in r-process nucleosynthesis. In this framework, during the last 18 years, an extensive fission programme was realized at the CERN n-TOF facility by taking the full advantage of the provided high energy resolution and high luminosity of our facility. In this talk the existing and future instrumentation will be presented along with recent results from fission reaction studies. Perspectives and future plans of our facility will also be discussed.
