VIRTUAL Thursday, November 12th , 2020 3:45 – 4:45 p.m. WEBEX Speaker: Michael J. Martin MPA-Q , Los Alamos National Laboratory “Quantum information science with Rydberg atoms” Abstract: Neutral atoms coupled to highly-excited Rydberg levels are an emerging platform for quantum science, with promising applications in quantum computing, quantum simulation, and quantum sensing. In this presentation, I will highlight some of the recent advances in this field, including work towards demonstrating a Mølmer–Sørensen-like gate between two neutral atoms. I will further discuss our work at LANL to develop Rydberg atom-based emulators for studying quantum magnetism, with tunable interactions and geometry, as well as work towards entangling nuclear spins in 87Sr atoms. This research is supported by the Laboratory Directed Research and Development program of Los Alamos National Laboratory under project numbers 20190494ER, 20200015ER, 20210116DR, and 20210064DR. This research is also supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, National Quantum Information Science Research Centers.
