Seminar on May 18, 2005 Title: Parton Recombination at High p_T in Heavy Ion Collisions Speaker: Rudolph C. Hwa, University of Oregon Abstract: The study of the hadronization problem in heavy-ion collisions is first motivated as a necessary first step in the investigation of the properties of the hot and dense medium created. The traditional fragmentation model for the hadronization of high p_T partons has serious problems, all of which can be resolved by the consideration of parton recombination. In the framework of the recombination of the shower partons produced in jets, the correlation between hadrons at intermediate p_T will be discussed and the results compared to the data obtained by the STAR experiment at RHIC.
