“The Ultimate Safety Share: A Survey of Fatal Accidents at Los Alamos”

 

 

 

Abstract: 

May 19, 1972 was the deadliest day in Los Alamos history.  That day, eight Laboratory employees died in a plane crash that was entirely preventable.  Sadly, there have been many other deadly days in the history of Los Alamos.  LANL Senior Historian Alan B. Carr discusses some of the accidents from the Laboratory’s past, as well as how and why the safety culture has shifted over the decades
