ESA-DE PHENIX MVD DESIGN REVIEW SUMMARY

This progress report represents the results of five weeks of ESA-DE engineering review of the current PHENIX Multiplicity and Vertex Detector (MVD) design, and combines the results of engineering calculations in the areas of electronics cooling, structural support system, and materials. In addition, some preliminary consideration was made of fluid-induced vibrations in the forced-air cooling system, and new measurements and experiments are suggested. However, detailed design or computational work in these areas was beyond the scope of the review. Conclusions are drawn and recommendations are included. This work was performed in support of Los Alamos Group P-25, Subatomic Physics.
