(Some) history of assembly QA

We did most assembly QA with the laser station in the past. A description of this process can be found here. When trying to use the laser station in the fall of 2000, we had problems getting it to work. After some effort we have narrowed the problem down to either a broken optical fiber or a misalligned optical fiber -- the laser and associated electronics are working. To simplify the tests, a slightly modified version of the laser station, replacing the laser with three red LEDs, is now used. No effort to collimate the LED was made, they shine on all the Si channels (although not with equal intensity). This means we can't study crosstalk or a single channel at a time as we could with the laser. However, in the QA tests we were not making any use of the extra information available from the laser. The new test is easier and faster. The rest of the document is a modification of the laser QA document, which was originally written by YoungGook Kim.
