The BeO nosecone (as compared to a copper nosecone) gives a decreased mass width for , J/ and , and increases the acceptance of 's, while maintaining approximately the same number of background muons and other charged particles that reach the third plane of the muon identification system. This would indicate that the signal:background ratio would improve for 's and J/'s and possibly even slightly for Y's if a BeO nosecone were used in the muon system. However, the occupancy of the chambers will increase, so a detailed study of the effect of the increased occupancy on pattern recognition should be performed. Also, a full study of the change in the background mass spectrum should be completed to understand exactly how the background changes at each mass peak with the BeO nosecone.
