Meeting Goals
Oak Ridge National Laboratory Muon Arm Meeting
Oak Ridge, TN
October 5-6, 1995
- Preparation for the Online Meeting
- Review of the Muon Tracking Front End Electronic specification
- Everyone should hear and provide constructive criticism on the specifications for the front end electronics for muon tracking. Those specifications have been outlined in a Muon Arms Technical Note,
Design Criteria For the Muon Tracker Electronics, by Dave Lee and Walter Sondheim.
- Review of the Muon Identification Front End Electronic specification
- Everyone should hear and provide constructive criticism on the specifications for the front end electronics for the muon identifier. Those specifications have been outlined in a Muon Arms Technical Note,
PHENIX Muon Identifier FEE Specifications, by Ken Read.
- Data rate estimates for normal data taking in Muon Tracking and Muon Identification
- This is a subject which should play heavily in the upcoming On-line Meeting so we should review these numbers for both the muon tracking and the muon identifier. As a reminder there is a technical note, Electronics Requirements for the CSC Chambers, by Dave Lee (revised after the last Muon Arms Meeting) which covers the assumptions and results of studies of the data rates for tracking. We should try to get something comparable for muon identification at the meeting.
- Data rate, running condition, and frequency of calibrations
- This is another item for the On-line meeting. Studies on this issue have been written up in PHENIX Muon Tracking Calibration Requirements by Melynda Brooks for the muon tracking system. A similiar thing would be most helpful for the muon ID system.
- Overview of Front End Electronic circuit board-emphasis on constraints
- There should be some discussion about constraints on circuit boards and other system electro-mechanical systems (cables, cooling, etc.) with the idea of moving forward with some requirements documents. These are needed for both systems in order to proceed towards final mechanical designs.
- Upcoming Year's Planned Activities
The following items need to be presented. In each case, as part of that presentation there should be at least the beginning of an R&D plan presented. By the end of the meeting, it needs to be clear (as clear as a snap-shot in time can make it) who is going to do what in the upcoming year.
- Research and development plans for Muon Tracking
- Research and development plans for Muon Identification
- Research and development plans for electronics for both sub-sub-systems
- Results of Simulation Studies
- Status and prospects of beam-gas studies
- Some very specific proposals were presented at the last Muon Arms Meeting about how these studies should proceed. There should be presentations on the results and status of those studies.
- Updated information on trigger studies
- This item is related to the above.
