Subject: Galvanic corrosion of al and carbon. From: "Robert P. Pisani"Date: 1/17/13 6:30 PM To: Hubert van Hecke , Walter Sondheim Did a search of galvanic corrosion of Al and carbon fiber. It seems to be a very popular topic now that carbon fiber and Al is being used on cars and boats. Boeing has a web page on it http://www.boeing.com/commercial/aeromagazine/aero_07/corrosn.html Also found this On other pagers. Galvanic erosion will attack the aluminum at the interface of the two materials and turn it to dust. And, if there is any water present, the destruction of the mechanical bond will be rapid. "Carbon Fiber does indeed attack aluminum voraciously if any hint of moisture gets into the matrix. All the metal parts on the F-16 fighter that contact CF are Stainless Steel, Passivated to more closely match the electronegativity value of the two materials." Would be interesting to take a resistance reading between the foam and the Al to see of all the tubes are making contact or just the ones that leak. Don't know if I took that measurement yet. Rob
