How to Operate LV and HV

LV Operating Instructions

A power supply is by default connected to the LV distribution card which resides in the power distribution VME crate. To send voltage to the wedges, the power on this power supply must be turned on and the channel(s) of interest on the distribution card enabled. To Enable a channel on the distribution card:

  • Open the shortcut on the Desktop called fvtxlv7
  • Enable the channel(s) of interest either by clicking on the box or "Toggle LV Enables" if you want all channels ON
  • Click on "Load LV and Bias Modules"
  • Click on "Outputs On" (should see the Global Power Enabled Button go to green)

Bias Voltage Operating Instructions

The MPOD crate has channel 0 connected to the bias distribution card sitting in the power distribution VME crate. To talk to the MPOD crate, it must be connected via ethernet to the local ethernet card on the PC. It nominally has IP address 192.168.1.251, and you should be able to ping it if all is connected properly. To turn the HV on, the mpod crate voltage must be turned on and the distribution card channel(s) of interest must be enabled:
  • Two icons for operating the bias voltage can be found on the Desktop: mpod-monitor and mpod-control. Open these guis.
  • To turn the MPOD channel on type the following commands in the mpod-control:
    • Power On (turns the crate on)
    • volt 0 20 (turns channel 0 to 20 volts. Set 20 to whatever value you want)
    • curr 0 10 (sets the current limit to 10 micro-amps)
    • chan on 0 (turns channel 0 on) At this point, you should see that the mpod-monitor window will show the voltage setting that you have sent, but it may take a couple window refreshes before it shows up
    • chan off 0 turns the channel back off
    • Power off turns the mpod crate off
  • To enable the bias channel on the distribution card, follow the same steps as for the LV distribution card.
    • Presumably the shortcut on the Desktop called fvtxlv7 is already open
    • Enable the bias channel(s) of interest either by clicking on the box or "Toggle LV Enables" if you want all channels ON
    • Click on "Load LV and Bias Modules"
    • Click on "Outputs On" if it is not already on (should see the Global Power Enabled Button go to green)
