The Consortium for Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors (CASL) was established as the first Department of Energy Innovation Hub with the purpose to develop and apply advanced modeling and simulation to enhance the operation of the existing and new light water reactors. CASL will produce an advanced modeling and simulation environment (a "virtual reactor") for predictive simulation of light water reactors in support of power uprates, life extension, and reduced operation costs. This presentation will consist of a technical overview of the modeling and simulation activities of CASL (given by Stephen Lee, CCS-DO) as well more detailed descriptions of the Models and Numerical Methods (MNM, given by Robert Lowrie, CCS-2) and Materials Performance Optimization (MPO, given by Chris Stanek, MST-8) Focus Areas.
